Sewage Backing Up Again After a Cable? Start Here
Our dispatch line is open 24/7, and a repeat main line backup is a good reason to use it. Stop all water use now, including the dishwasher and washer, because the line is already full and has nowhere to send more. Do not run a chemical opener into a line that a jetter hose will need to travel through.
Keep everyone out of any room with standing wastewater, and stay off wet floors near outlets or power strips. Tell us where the cleanout is and whether a previous plumber's cable got stuck. That detail changes how we approach the line.
They Snaked It and It Came Back: Is Jetting the Answer?
Often it is. A cable bores a hole through a clog, the water drains for a few weeks, and then the coating left on the pipe wall catches the next load of grease or paper. Trade guides describe the cable as puncturing a blockage without reaching the pipe wall, while a jetter scours the whole circumference.
Often is not always. If the line is cracked, offset or collapsed, jetting just washes debris around a broken pipe. That is why we ask what the cable hit, and why a camera sometimes comes before the jetter.
Inside the Pipe: What a Hydro Jetter Actually Does
The jetter is a hose fitted with a nozzle that has several rear-facing ports and usually one forward port. The rear jets pull the hose up the pipe while the front jet breaks the clog. Water pressure at the nozzle for residential sewer work can reach about 4,000 PSI, and we match nozzle type and pressure to the pipe, not the other way around.
We feed the hose in through the 4-inch cleanout, work toward the clog, then pull back slowly while the rear jets scrub the wall. Loosened debris flows downstream with the water toward the municipal system, where Dania Beach wastewater is carried to the City of Hollywood's Southern Regional plant.
Jetting or Cable: A Plain Decision Table
Neither tool is always right. This table shows how we pick, and we will tell you if your situation points to the cheaper option.
| Situation | Better method | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Single clog, hair or paper, first time | Cable or drum machine | Fast and enough for a fresh blockage |
| Clog returns within weeks | Hydro jetting | Cable leaves the coating on the wall |
| Kitchen line, heavy grease | Hydro jetting | Pressure strips the wall |
| Fine roots in clay joints | Jetting, then camera | Jets clear minor roots, a camera checks the joint |
| Cracked or collapsed pipe | Neither, repair first | Pressure only moves debris around a break |
When We Run a Camera First or Decline to Jet
Angi's guidance on jetting notes that very old or weak pipes may not tolerate the pressure and should be video-inspected first. We agree. The ACS lists the median Dania Beach home as built in 1977, and pipe condition behind a wall or under a slab is invisible without a sewer camera inspection.
Hollywood has said coastal utilities including Dania Beach receive infiltrated groundwater, which means cracks and open joints exist somewhere in the wider system. A line with open joints is a poor candidate for full pressure. If we see offset sections, we tell you, show you the footage, and discuss sewer line repair instead.
What to Check First Before the Jetter Arrives
A little preparation shortens the visit. None of this needs a tool beyond a flashlight.
- Locate the cleanout and clear a three-foot working area around it.
- Show us the outdoor spigot, in case the jetter needs another water source.
- Cover or plug floor drains inside the house that sit below the cleanout, so any surge does not come up there.
- Move cars, grills and planters away from the cleanout and the path the hose will follow.
- Tell us what sits on the line: kitchen grease, laundry lint, a large tree near the lateral.
Grease, Scale and Roots: What Jetting Can and Cannot Clear
Water at pressure breaks up grease and soap film. Scale, the hard mineral crust inside older iron, can be scoured off with the right nozzle. Fine hair roots at pipe joints often wash out too, though Angi says only that jetting can clear minor roots. A heavy root mass is something we judge from the camera, not promise to wash out.
Jetting is a cleaning, not a repair. If roots entered through a crack, they will return unless the joint is sealed. Sewer line cleaning on a schedule can buy time, and spot repair or a liner removes the cause.
Shared Lines in Apartment Buildings
Per the ACS, Dania Beach has 2,554 housing units in mid-size buildings of 20 to 49 units and 1,860 in buildings of 50 or more. A shared building drain carries kitchen grease from every unit above it, and that is where jetting earns its place. If you manage a building, call us when two or more units report backups, and give us the lowest unit's number first.
We also serve Davie buildings from the same dispatch, so the routine is the same for a larger property just across the line.
Hydro Jetting Price Ranges and What Drives Them
National published guides put hydro jetting at about $250 to $1,000 (Fixr). Thumbtack lists $350 to $600, with complex jobs up to $1,000, and Angi's Tampa page, the closest Florida figure we found, lists $353 to $605 in 2025. We found no Broward figure, and Florida prices vary.
What moves the price
- Line length. A short lateral costs less than a long run from the back of the lot to the street.
- Buildup. Thick grease or scale needs more passes with the nozzle.
- Camera before or after. A camera run adds time but shows whether the line is safe to jet and whether the wall is clean afterward.
- Access. A reachable cleanout saves time. A line with none may need a fixture pulled.
- Hour of the call. Ask on the call whether nights, weekends or holidays are priced differently.
| Work | Published range |
|---|---|
| Hydro jetting, general | $250 to $1,000 (Fixr) |
| Hydro jetting, Tampa FL | $353 to $605 (Angi, 2025) |
| Camera inspection | $100 to $500 (This Old House) |
Policies differ. Jetting to clear a recurring clog is usually treated as maintenance, not a covered loss. If sewage backed up and damaged floors or walls, ask your insurer whether sudden backup is covered or needs a separate endorsement.
We will quote the actual job once we know the line length and what is in it. Call (954) 697-4920 and describe the symptoms, and we will say whether jetting makes sense.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you handle hydro jetting emergencies at night or on weekends in Dania?
Yes. Dispatch runs 24/7, and a sewer line that has stopped draining is an emergency whatever the hour. We cannot promise an arrival time, but we will tell you how to limit water use until the crew reaches you.
Can hydro jetting damage my pipes?
It can on a weak pipe. Angi notes that very old or fragile pipe may not tolerate the pressure, which is why we scope doubtful lines first and set pressure to the pipe material. We do not run full pressure into a line we have not seen.
Will jetting remove tree roots?
Minor roots, yes. A heavy root mass may need cutting or repair first, and roots that entered through a crack will grow back until the crack is sealed or lined. Our camera shows which case you have.
How do I know the jetting worked?
We run water through the line while you watch, and a camera pass after the job can show whether the wall is clean. If the camera shows damage the water could not fix, we tell you so.
Do restaurants need hydro jetting for grease lines?
Many kitchen lines clog from grease, and jetting clears it. We give no grease trap pricing here because we have no reliable published figure. Call us and describe the trap and line, and we will discuss it.
What if the clog is past my property line?
We cannot tell by phone who owns that stretch of pipe. Ask the Dania Beach sewer office. Call (954) 697-4920 and we can still camera and jet your side and show where the problem sits.
Code reference: plumbing work in Florida falls under the Florida Building Code, Plumbing (8th Edition, 2023), which is based on the 2021 International Plumbing Code (IPC). Ask the Dania Beach Building Division whether your job needs a permit.
