Jetting or snaking: which one fits your clog?
A drain cable punches a hole through a clog and pulls out what it hooks. Hydro jetting sends high pressure water through a hose and scours the full circle of the pipe. Angi describes the difference as a snake that does not reach the pipe walls versus a jet that removes grease, scale, hair and sometimes small roots.
That difference decides which tool earns its price. One hairball in a tub trap is a snake job. A kitchen line coated in years of grease, or a main line that clogs every spring, is a jetting job.
| Question | Drain snake | Hydro jetter |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Opens a channel through the clog | Scours the whole pipe wall |
| Best for | Single clumps, hair, a dropped object | Grease, scale, hair buildup, small roots |
| Weak spot | Leaves a coating that re-clogs | Not for cracked, collapsed or very old pipe |
| Published price | About $125 to $572 | About $250 to $1,100 |
| Camera first? | Optional | Strongly advised on old lines |
They snaked it and it got stuck: what that tells us
Homeowners often say the cable went in a few feet and stopped. A cable that cannot move past one spot usually met a root mass, an offset joint or a belly. Pushing harder can kink the cable or scrape the pipe.
That is the moment to look instead of guessing. A camera on a push rod shows whether the stop is a soft clog a jetter can wash out or a broken joint that needs sewer line repair. We cannot promise a jet will clear a stuck cable until we see the pipe.
What Dania Beach Homeowners Should Know About Older Pipes
The Census ACS puts the median Dania Beach home at a 1977 build, with about 16,348 housing units in total. An ACS table compiled by Point2Homes shows about 71 percent of the housing stock was built in the 1950s through the 1980s. Those decades are when cast iron and clay drain lines were common nationwide, so a camera is worth the cost before any high pressure work.
Only about 21.7 percent of Dania Beach homes are detached single family houses, and about 12.4 percent are mobile homes. In a building with shared lines, a jetting job may cross several units, so tell the property manager first. We cannot say which of those pipes are cast iron or clay without looking, because no public source breaks that down for Dania Beach.

How a 4000 PSI jetter does its work
The hose ends in a nozzle with several jets that point backward. The backward thrust pulls the hose forward through the line, and forward jets break up the front of the clog. Residential machines are often rated near 4000 PSI, though a plumber lowers the pressure for thin or old pipe.
The water carries the loosened debris down the line toward the sewer. That is why the job also needs a clear path at the cleanout, and why a plumber may jet in short passes and then pull the hose back to check the water flow. The same method applies on calls in Davie and West Park, where the pipe age and the sewer system can differ from Dania Beach.
What published guides say hydro jetting costs
National published guides put hydro jetting at about $350 to $600 for typical jobs at Thumbtack, with complex ones up to $1,000. Fixr gives about $250 to $1,000. Forbes states about $700 to $1,100, though its own table starts lower, so treat that top figure with care.
The only Florida data point we found is Angi's Tampa page at about $353 to $605. Broward prices may differ, and we do not call any of these Dania Beach prices. For comparison, snaking runs about $147 to $352 at HomeAdvisor, $125 to $360 at Forbes and $191 to $572 at Thumbtack.

When jetting is the wrong tool
Angi warns that very old or weak pipes may not tolerate jetting pressure and should be video inspected first. Cracked clay, collapsed Orangeburg and badly scaled cast iron can break or shed large pieces under a jet. A sewer inspection costs far less than replacing a pipe the jetter damaged.
Jetting also does not fix a belly or a cracked joint. It can clear the roots and grease today, and the pipe will clog again next season. If the camera shows structural damage, the honest answer is repair, not a second jetting.
What to do before the jetting crew arrives
A little preparation shortens the job and keeps water where it belongs. If the line is backing up now, stop using water and Call (954) 697-4920 so we can plan the right equipment.
- Find and uncover the cleanout, the capped pipe usually 4 inches wide near the house or in the yard.
- Move cars, planters and stored items away from the access point and the path of the hose.
- Tell us if a snake already got stuck, and where. That detail changes our plan.
- Note which fixtures drain slowly and which are fine. It points to the clogged section.
- Mention if you have a septic tank or a shared line in a multi-unit building, since both change how jetting is done.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is hydro jetting worth it compared with snaking?
It is when the same line clogs again and again, because jetting removes the coating that a cable leaves behind. For a one time hairball or a dropped toy, a cable costs less and works. A camera view tells you which case you have.
Can hydro jetting damage my pipes?
On sound modern pipe it is safe at the right pressure. Very old, cracked or collapsed pipe can fail under a jet, which is why a camera comes first on older lines. We would rather tell you the pipe is too weak than risk breaking it.
Does hydro jetting remove tree roots?
It can clear small and fine roots, and a cutter head handles thicker ones first. Roots grow back through any open joint. If the camera shows a joint they keep entering, the fix is a repair at that joint.
Do older Dania Beach homes need a camera before jetting?
We recommend it. Dania Beach's median home dates to 1977, and homes from the 1950s to the 1980s often have older cast iron or clay in some runs. A short hydro jetting visit that starts with a camera avoids surprises and shows you the pipe condition.
How long does a jetting visit take?
A single line with good access often takes an hour or two, plus camera time. Long runs, no cleanout or heavy roots take longer. Call (954) 697-4920 and describe the symptoms, and we can tell you what to expect.
